Sponsoring Institutions: Co-sponsored by BCA; Universitat Jaume I; the city of Benicassim; and two NAFSA Knowledge Communities: International Education Leadership; and Teaching, Learning and Scholarship

BCA, which has been holding International Seminars since 2000, began offering a new type of seminar in the summer of 2007 in the picturesque village of Ballyvaughan on Galway Bay in the west of Ireland. The discussion revolved around international education and the relationship it has to peace, justice, and the development of global civil society ( www.globalcivilsociety.net.) The success of the Ballyvaughan seminar made it clear that we should continue to focus on the role of international education in the development of global civil society, so we intend to do that over the next several years.

Content

BCA’s International Seminar on the Role of International Education in the Development of Global Civil Society is being offered in association with NAFSA, and the Universitat Jaume I’s Department of Philosophy & Sociology. In addition to a small number of commentators with extensive international experience relevant to our discussions, all participants will be expected to contribute their own insights and reflections so that we can continue to build a sound intellectual and academic framework for international education initiatives that will contribute to the development of a peaceful and just global civil society.

Schedule

The seminar will commence on Thursday evening with a welcome reception at the Voramar Hotel overlooking the beach in Benicassim. Seminar sessions will be held each day with excursions scheduled for Sunday, and Tuesday afternoon and early evening. A farewell banquet will be held on Wednesday evening, the 18th, and participants will depart on the morning of Thursday, June 19th.
