Matthew Lambton Juniata College Mangalore, IndiaAct: Helping in a Rural Clinic "I snapped this photo while at my BCA field work location in the outskirts of Mangalore, India. I worked in local medical clinics and got to spend a lot of time with children from impoverished families. The kids were always upbeat and a joy to spend time with. Spending time with them and the doctors truly reaffirmed my desire to become a doctor and work in economically poor areas throughout the world." |
2nd Place Winner
Liz DiLeonardi Elizabethtown College Quito, EcuadorThe Loves of My Life "I studied in Ecuador during my senior year in college. As a social work major, I was expected to complete a 200 hour internship during my time abroad. I chose Amigos Benefactores Enfermos Incurables (ABEI), a medical center for children with disabilities. This picture is from the daycare at ABEI where children receive an array of therapies, special care and attention necessary for their condition, and three meals a day that many of them would not receive otherwise. During my time at ABEI, I worked in the social work department to do intake of each family, assess their living condition, and provide them with a discounted tuition to the daycare. Each day during my down time I would go over to the daycare and help care for these beautiful children. They never failed to bring joy to my day and made my experience in Ecuador absolutely amazing!!" |
3rd Place Winner Risa Heatwole Bridgewater College Quito, Ecuador Connecting the Hemispheres "The prominent stone line, which I am straddling in the photo, is the equatorial line that I visited on one of the BCA excursions. In the background is Cayambe, one of Ecuador's snow capped volcanoes. While in Ecuador I had the opportunity to talk with various Ecuadorians about misconceptions between our countries. Through these conversations we were able to break down at least some of these misconceptions and connect the hemispheres a little more." |
