Student Life

Student life at Hokusei Gakuen University is interesting and lively. The university hosts more than 5,000 students and nearly 90 faculty, and boasts an active International Center. BCA students also have access to a wide variety of student clubs.

Housing and Meals

While in Sapporo you will live with a Japanese host family, which will help you improve your proficiency in Japanese, learn about Japanese culture and create a network of friends.  BCA places one student per family to facilitate cultural integration.  The family will also provide you with breakfast and dinner each day, and BCA will give you a stipend for lunch.

Computer Access

BCA students have access to computers at the university library as well as at cyber cafes throughout the city. Not all host families will have Internet access available in their homes, so if you plan to take your laptop, you should plan to use it at the university or at a local cyber café.

Local Transportation

Sapporo has an excellent subway system, a bus network, and a fleet of taxis.

Sports Facilities

Sapporo has excellent skiing facilities in the area, left after the 1972 Olympics. Tennis, football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, and Japanese archery are popular varsity, intramural, and leisure activities offered through the university.

On campus, BCA students have the opportunity to make friends by joining some of the many student clubs and organizations including rugby, tennis, flower arranging, Japanese archery, and many more.

BCA Educational Excursions

Each semester, BCA Sapporo students go to the Honshu region of Japan for a study tour.  On this trip, you will encounter the old, traditional Japan of Kyoto and Nara and marvel at the rebuilt Japan in Hiroshima.

Activities

Hokusei Gakuen University also offers additional free excursions and cultural opportunities throughout the term, including a visit to the hot springs and classes in calligraphy and traditional Japanese tea ceremonies.
