Student Life
Housing and Meals
You will live in shared houses generally built of concrete blocks that have been plastered over and are very minimalist in design. The houses supply standard furnishings such as couches, beds and tables and include electricity and running water. Showers will be provided but may not include hot water unless solar generated.
Generally, you will spend most of your time outside, as the weather year-round is warm and tropical. The rainy season (April-October) is also the hottest season. In the dry season, you will enjoy an average temperature of 75. The warm climate has created a culture in which most of the cooking takes place outdoors, in central areas of the compound where people also gather to socialize.
The student house will have a kitchen with propane powered stoves for cooking. You can cook for yourself or arrange to pay a local person to prepare meals if you Currency: Dalasi and butut

Code GMDwish. If you combine your meal allowance with other students, your food and cooking services will cost about $3-4 per student per meal. For lunches, you may take food from your home or eat in one of the cafes in town.

University Life
Activities
Students of the University of The Gambia recently launched a UNESCO club at the university.
The new club will not only increase the number of associations within the university but the development is significant in that it marks the first time that the United Nations Education and Scientific Organization has a direct link to the university. The club will therefore strive to cultivate the seeds of UNESCO's ideals among students,as well as promote the culture of civility in the university.

Communal Eating
You will discover that mealtime in The Gambia centers around a communal bowl, which is
placed on the middle of a mat. In a typical family compound, especially in rural areas, men will eat separately from the women. If you arrive when people are eating they will immediately invite you to join them. So dig in and enjoy!
