Health & Safety

BCA is always concerned with the safety and well being of our students. We provide a detailed safety orientation upon arrival that covers important tips and instructions so you can stay safe. Our on-site resident directors are available whenever you are in need of medical attention and will ensure that you receive the required care during your time abroad.

Medical Insurance

BCA requires that all students have major medical insurance before going abroad and asks that you supply policy information on the BCA Certificate of Health, which is signed by you and your doctor. You must contact your insurance provider before going abroad to ensure that you are covered while abroad and to learn the procedures to follow if you need medical services.

Obtaining Medical Services in Derry

All students can visit the campus nurse, Julie Hassell, who works in the Magee campus health center from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. The BCA resident director will provide you with names, addresses and phone numbers of local doctors during orientation.

Staying Safe

While you are abroad it’s important to follow the same common-sense safety precautions that you follow at home: never walk alone at night, keep doors locked, don’t allow strangers into your housing, and never leave bags or backpacks unattended.
