Other costs not covered by the BCA fee for which you should budget include:
- Domestic and international airfare to the program - $2,000 from the East Coast
- U.S. Passport - $100
- Textbooks - $100
- Additional lab and course fees not included in standard host institution tuition
- Personal/entertainment expenses - $200-$300 per month
- For year-long students, the cost of living over semester breaks is approximately 2,000 yen per day or $20 dollars per day

The Institute of International Education administers grants for American undergraduates who wish to study in East and Southeast Asia through the Freeman-ASIA Awards for Study in Asia. Association of International Education, Japan scholarships are available for qualified students accepted by Japanese universities or graduate schools under the student exchange agreement on a short-term basis; students must study in Japan for 6 months or more. Scholarships provide an economy-class round-trip air ticket to Japan, a "settling-in allowance" of ¥25,000 (upon arrival) and a monthly stipend of ¥80,000 per month (up to 12 months). More...
