Culture, Class and Gender

India is a land of many contradictions--Indira Gandhi led the country for nearly a decade, there is a rise of women politicians such as Jayalalithaa and Mayawathi--yet, India is a country where female illiteracy is high, large number of women die in childbirth and the general social and economic conditions of women are poor. This course examines the role of gender in development—particularly as it applies in the coastal setting in south eastern India. Conducted by FERAL , you will participate in
a mix of academic lectures, book readings and site visits with field practitioners and activists.

Wildlife Conservation

Established for the conservation and study of India’s three endangered crocodilians in 1976, the Trust is now a Center for Herpetology and a premier institution for herpetofaunal conservation, research and education. You will gain an understanding of the challenges of captive breeding and that of raising awareness and appreciation for this faunal group amongst the local
population and public at large.
