Health & Safety

BCA is always concerned with the safety and well being of our students. We provide a detailed safety orientation upon arrival that covers important tips and instructions so you can stay safe. Our on-site resident directors are available whenever you are in need of medical attention and will ensure that you receive the required care during your time abroad.

Medical Insurance

BCA requires that all students have major medical insurance before going abroad.  We will ask you to supply policy information on the BCA Certificate of Health signed by you and your doctor.  You must contact your insurance provider before going abroad to ensure that you are covered while abroad and to learn the procedures to follow if you need medical services.

Obtaining Medical Services in Xalapa

The BCA resident director will provide you with names, addresses and phone numbers of local doctors during orientation.  If you need to visit a doctor while in Xalapa, you should first contact the resident director.  If you have the doctor’s contact information, you are welcome to make an appointment and the resident director will accompany you if you wish.  You should bring your primary insurance company claim forms with you to the doctor’s office.

Staying Safe

While you are abroad, it is important to follow the same common-sense safety precautions that you follow at home: never walk alone at night, keep doors locked, do not allow strangers into your housing, and never leave bags or backpacks unattended.
